First day of spring and I made a new worm bin. This bin is diffrent I've decided to add no bedding just worms and food. They should take off in a few months. I left the other bin to re-infest with worms and use them for my outdoor vc bin. The ammount of cocoons exceeds all my expectations in one day i have over 20+ cocoons! Thats 20-45 worms in the future! I have around 75+ in this bin alone. In the future[next winter] maybe I'll start two indoor bins. It all depends on how much food I can feed and how many plants I will be keeping[if any!]
Another thing is that my other bin has like 100's of cocoons so I wanna wait till they hatch and put them into my new bin so they in turn create more worms!

New Update March 16/2012
I will be away for some time so I will write up an update before I go!
March 16/2012
Today I will feed my worms again. They are eating well and breeding. Spring boom is right behind the corner. In canada the weather is unusually warm for this time of year. The worms need to be at 100+ before April 20th/2012 so I can start my new outdoor vermicomposting system that I've created a little bit ago. Ready to go all thats left is more worms. The population is at 85+ or so. I will give them another month and start my spring worm plans.

Worms and More Worms!
In one week my worm colony has built an Empire of Worms. I had 67+ last week now i have over 90+ in just over 5 days! The move has made all the cocoons hatch and I probably have worms that can't be seen yet!
Just thought I'd share with you an update!

About This Blog!
I thought I'd show you why i made this blog. I made it to share all my knowledge about Vermicomposting. I know a lot about it in my 1+ years of Vermicomposting. I have made a few mistakes but I have learned a lot from them. I will continue to provide information to those who follow this blog. I will see if I can in the future get myself a camera and post up some pictures. I will continue to post about my Experiments and all about my Worm Colonies. In short I made this blog to share with the world everything i know about Vermicomposting!

Vermicomposting Update March 7/2012
As I stated in my previous post I did not need to make any move on harvesting. I have since harvested the bin of it's 20 scps of vermicompost or about 800mL of vc! The worms have been moved into a new bin and should [I'm hoping anyway.] ready for harvest before spring rush hits. If not i plan to removed half the worms and place them into my outdoor vermicomposting system.
Until the next update!

Vermicompost!
I have been digging around my worm bin yesterday and found a high volume of vermicompost. This stuff is amazing. It looks like my 2012 plants will be getting a super dosage of awesomeness this spring/early summer. My worms on the other hand will need to pick up the pace if i plan on keeping a lot of plants in 2012. I have hens and chickens, a potato plant and plant to have 3-4 flowering plants. I will give each plant aorund 1-2 scoops of vermicompost every 2weeks.That would be around 5-7 scoops of vermicompost every 2 weeks. Or approxamatly 10-12 scoops monthly. I have approxamatly 30-45 scoops in the colony as of now. So i can last 3-3.5 months this year. There will be 7 or so months of growing so thats 70-85 scoops total. I hope the worms can keep up. Espeacilly if i plan to get more then my share of plants this year. Which trust me i probably will. I can't wait for spring its going to be busy as the bees. I have to start A.S.A.P when spring arrives.
